S-Boats in the Kriegsmarine 1935 - 1945 S-Boats - Technical Data "S 501" - "S 507" later: "S 501" - "S 513"
Boats bought from the Italian navy in the Black Sea respectively taken as war loot in the Mediterranean of the type "MAS 500".
Drawing from H. Fock: Schnellboote Band 1 (SK 68)
The boats were gliders and therefore they were bumping heavily at sea state. The had the designation "MAS 566" through "MAS 570", "MAS 574" and "MAS 575". In the Mediterranean numerous Italian S-boats fell into the hands of the Kriegsmarine after the Italian capitulation on 09.09.1943. Most of them were cannibalized as spare part stocks, however, 19 of the modern boats were forming the 24. SFltl in the Adriatic Sea.
